FRANKFORT, KY (AP) - The Kentucky Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal by Asbury University of a $380,000 award made to a former women's basketball coach at the school.
The case revolves around retaliation complaints made by Deborah Powell, the head women's basketball coach at the school from 2003 through 2008.
A Jessamine County jury awarded the damages to Powell after she was fired on the heels of making a gender discrimination complaint against the school.
The dismissal came after complaints the school received from students about Powell's public displays of affection with an assistant coach.
Asbury is contesting the instructions given to jurors as improper.
The high court announced on Thursday its intention to take up the case. No date was immediately set for oral arguments.
