HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) - The Hancock County Sheriff's Department confirms a pedestrian was struck and killed in Lewisport on Monday night.
Deputies say Chad White was headed east on KY334 and thought he had hit a deer at the intersection of Carl Young Road.
White stopped and got out of his car. Another driver, who also thought White hit a deer, stopped to help out.
Neither found anything so White drove to the Lewisport police department to file a report for hitting a deer.
A police officer went to the scene and found a flip-flop in the roadway. He began to search further and found the body of 48-year-old Michele Lyons of Lewisport.
It's unclear why she was in the roadway.
Authorities say Lyons was wearing dark clothes and KY334 is an unlit highway so it would have been difficult to see her.
No charges have been filed and alcohol is not suspected at this time.
