EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The developers of the McCurdy project appeared Tuesday before the Evansville Redevelopment Commission.
The Kunkel Group presented plans for exterior renovation of the building.
Due to the historic nature of the McCurdy, both the U.S. Secretary of the Interior and the National Parks Service must sign off on any changes.
According to Ben Kunkel, the Secretary of the Interior has partially approved the design.
Kunkel plans to apply for $2 million in historic tax credits from the National Parks Service to help finance the renovations.
In order to receive the funds once the project is complete, Kunkel must maintain the historical design and architecture of the McCurdy in any place the public can see.
The ERC approved the exterior renovation plans but made its approval contingent upon the project meeting federal standards and obtaining federal tax credits.
