NTSB: Chicago-area small plane crash cause unclear

PALOS HILLS, IL (AP) -

The investigation of the small plane crash that killed three people in suburban Chicago will include determining if there was anything wrong with the fuel the plane received at Midway International Airport.

On Monday, National Transportation Safety Board investigator John Brannen told reporters the cause of the crash in Palos Hills remains under investigation. The aircraft crashed Sunday night in the only vacant lot on a street crowded with houses. There has been speculation that the pilot crashed there to avoid injuring anyone on the ground.

Brannen says the pilot was in radio contact with air traffic controllers and there was no indication the aircraft was in distress before the crash. He says the wreckage will be taken to Belvidere for analysis.
