New cloverleaf construction begins on US 41 and Lloyd Expressway

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - It's going to cause some traffic headaches, but hopefully it will make driving in the area easier when its complete.

Construction began Monday on the new cloverleaf configuration at the intersection of US 41 and the Lloyd Expressway.  One-half will be built at a time.

For now, traffic restrictions are in place going eastbound and westbound on the Lloyd. Lanes will remain reduced to two lanes down from three until further notice. For now, restrictions on US 41 are on hold, but could start as soon as Wednesday.

When the project is done, two traffic lights at the intersection of 41 and the Lloyd will be gone.

Access to the Lloyd from Division Street will be permanently closed during construction.

Traffic will still be allowed on 41 and the Lloyd, but you should expect delays in the area due to shifting traffic patterns and closed lanes.

INDOT plans to reduce 41 in each direction from Lincoln to Columbia, and the Lloyd will have lanes closed between Garvin and Weinbach.

The $19.1 million project will also involve constructing a storm sewer and building a new multi-use trail.

The existing pedestrian bridge will be removed and a new one will be built.

Pedestrian traffic will be detoured along Division, Weinbach and Walnut during construction.

The entire project, including the new pedestrian bridge, should take about one year to complete.
