The Owensboro Fire Department is launching a new program to inform the public how to prepare and deal with disasters. It's called "Our Safe Owensboro." Officials are reaching out to workplaces, neighborhood alliances, churches, and students to be better prepared to take care of themselves for three days without help after a disaster. Fire fighters say the program allows the fire department to provide citizens with information and instructions on how to deal with and prepare for emergencies and disasters, man-made or natural.
"In our last two tornado situations we had great difficulty responding into some areas because the debris had blocked the road so badly that it took us hours to cut into those areas," said Steve Leonard, Owensboro Fire Department.
