EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - A new fundraising challenge pits Mater Dei against Reitz: who can bring in more donations to help build a Habitat home?
The battle is the idea of Youth United, a high school-age leadership, service and fundraising group that works with Habitat for Humanity.
They want to raise enough money to build an $80,000 Habitat home.
Over the next two weeks, students, alumni, family and friends can make a donation in one of two buckets at participating businesses along Franklin Street.
Youth United students will also make the rounds collecting donations at Fall Festival, starting Monday which is also World Habitat Day.
Habitat Communications Manager Lee Jerstad says the schedule was partly planning, partly luck.
"As people are down at the Fall Festival, westsiders can hopefully fuel that fire by donating money and hopefully helping their school win that title," Jerstad says.
The competition continues until a champion is declared at the big game next Friday when Mater Dei plays Reitz.
