California mayor shot and killed by wife

BELL GARDENS, CA (CNN) -

The mayor of Bell Gardens, California was shot and killed Tuesday in an apparent domestic dispute.

Officials say Daniel Crespo, 45, and his wife were arguing Tuesday afternoon when their 19-year-old son tried to intervene.

The mayor's wife, Levette, then shot the mayor several times in the upper chest. Mayor Crespo was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The wife, 43, was then taken into custody, but charges were not filed. There has been no motive released at this time.

After moving from Brooklyn, Mayor Crespo and his high school sweetheart wife, Levette, moved to California where he served as a probation officer.

He continued as a probation officer even after becoming mayor of the Bell Gardens, located a few miles outside of Los Angeles.
