Women's roller derby playoffs in Evansville this weekend

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Women's Flat Track Derby Association playoffs get underway at the Ford Center in downtown Evansville this weekend.

The Nashville Rollergirls take on Houston at 10:00 a.m. Friday.

The event features some of the most talented skaters in the world vying for the highest honor.

The top three finishers will go on to the championship in November to play for the D1 title.

Organizers say the decision to bring the playoffs to Evansville was made because it's easy to get around the city and the venue is beautiful.

Amanda Hull or "Alassin Sane" said, "This arena is fantastic. I think it's going to be a really good showcase for derby. The league has been around for a long time so we're really happy for them to be hosting because they have a lot of experience hosting. But to bring this scale of an event to this area, we're really excited to partner with the league."
