EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Evansville Police are investigating a shooting that happened on the city's southeast side.

Police tell 14NEWS the 17-year-old victim was confronted by three suspects at 2290 Sunburst shortly before midnight Monday and as he tried to run away, he was shot in the leg.

Police say the victim had already been taken to the hospital by his father.

The victim wasn't able to give any description of the shooter to police.

This marked the third shooting victim in the city within two days.

Sgt. Jason Cullum says the continuation of a lack of information is frustrating.

He says the conversation of gun violence in the city has ramped up in the past 72 hours.

At this point though, Cullum says there needs to be more community involvement to help curb gun violence.

"What can be said that hasn't been said though? We've talked about it. We've reiterated the point of addressing this issue and importance of victim cooperation and witness cooperation," said Cullum. "We still struggle to get those, just like a lot of other communities. We keep fighting the good fight and hopefully we find a solution."

Cullum says they'll continue to work with information they've been given to find the suspects.

If you have any information on this case, you're asked to call Evansville Police.
