Jail inmate charged with attacking corrections officer

 LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man being held at Louisville Metro Corrections is facing additional charges after he attacked a LMDC officer.

Lonnie Steven Smith, 48, was being escorted back to his dorm by the officer to get his property after Smith had been involved in a prior altercation. After the attack, Smith made threats against the officer's life once he is released from jail.

Smith is charged with assault, criminal mischief and terroristic threatening as a result of the attack. He was being held on charges for burglary, escape and probation violation.

The officer received injuries to his head and face. Also, his uniform was damaged.
