EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke is one of many people who are offering condolences and remembering Rick Davis.

The former Vanderburgh County Treasurer and mayoral candidate was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at Deaconess Hospital.

His family said he was being kept on life-support for organ donation after being hospitalized on Monday in critical condition. He was 45-years-old.

In a statement released Wednesday, Mayor Winnecke said:

"I want to offer my condolences to Rick's wife, family and friends. The sadness at his untimely passing is shared with those who knew him well, by our city and all of Vanderburgh County. Rick Davis will be remembered fondly and with gratitude for his years of leadership. His caring and compassion extended beyond his close-knit family to his wide circle of loyal friends and to his neighbors, neighborhood and our community.

Rick had a true passion for public service. As a former newspaper journalist, he had a reputation for seeking the truth and endeavoring to help all of us gain a better understanding of the stories and issues that impacted our region. As an elected official, Rick was the consummate advocate, working tirelessly to provide the most effective and highest quality service to the citizens he served.

Our prayers are with his family and friends."

No word yet on funeral arrangements for Davis.
