NY's Electric Zoo music fest shut down by storms

NEW YORK (AP) - New York's Electric Zoo music festival has been shut down as powerful thunderstorms roll through the area, forcing thousands of people to leave.

The cancellation came on the three-day electronic music fest's final day Sunday. It's the second time in two years the event has been canceled midstream. Last year, the third day was called off after two people died of drug overdoses.

Spokesman Stefan Friedman says organizers apologize to fans but ultimately their main concern "is for the safety and security of all attendees, artists and staff."

The decision was made about six hours before the festival was scheduled to end on an island in the East River. Fans have to take ferries and shuttle buses to get out of the venue on Randall's Island.
