Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke announced on his Twitter feed Thursday that he supports the creation of a random drug test policy for elected officials.
Winnecke says he is making the statement due to the number of questions his office has received related to the subject.
The mayor also says he would gladly participate in a drug testing, "in the same manner as all other city employees."
Winnecke went on to say that the administration is willing to work with City Council and/or state legislators regarding the issue.
On Monday, by a vote of 7-2, Evansville City Council voted down a resolution regarding random drug tests for elected officials.
City councilwoman Missy Mosby and City councilman Jonathan Weaver voted in favor.
A 14 News poll found that 93% of people who voted agreed that Evansville City Council members should be drug tested.
