Ohio man charged after jumping into Portage River for $5

PORT CLINTON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

An Ohio man has been charged after jumping into the Portage River while intoxicated to win a bet with his friends.

According to police reports, Jason Steel says he jumped off of the Portage River Bridge into the Portage River in the presence of numerous pedestrians because he was bet $5 that he would not jump.

Highway Patrol, Sheriff's deputies and U.S. Border Patrol responded to the call.  Steel was later tracked down inside a hotel room and charged with disorderly conduct and inducing panic.
