Chris Sweeney has done it again! The Otters outfielder played hero again late Saturday night, smacking a two-run double into the left-center field gap, to give the Otters their second-straight walk-off victory, 4-3, over the Washington Wild Things, in 12 innings.
The win gives Evansville sole possesion of first place, by one game over the 'Things, heading into tomorrow's final game of their crucial, 3-game series.
Sweeney won it for the Otters, Friday night, with a solo home run, in the bottom of the 9th, to beat Washington, 5-4.
Tonight, it was definitely more of a challenge. Evansville led much of the game, until Washington tied it 2-2, in the 8th. It stayed that way until the 12th inning, when the Wild Things scored on a beautiful squeeze bunt, to make it 3-2.
After Shayne Houck flew out to begin the bottom half of the inning, both Jeremy Nowak and Chris Elder singled, to give the Otters, runners on 1st and 2nd, with 1 out.
Then, Sweeney came up, and on a 1-2 count, smokes it into the gap in left-center. Nowak scored easily, and Elder came hustling all the way around from 1st, with the game-winning run.
The Otters will go for the sweep over the Wild Things, tomorrow at 5:05, weather permitting.
