LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Witnesses told police that two assailants armed with guns attacked a woman and tried to force her into the trunk of a car, according to court records.
Police said Matthew Lewis, 29, turned himself in and admitted assaulting the victim on July 20 by placing his hands around her throat. Another suspect, who was not named in the report, allegedly told police that he and Lewis were armed with guns at the time of the assault, but police say Lewis, waiving his Miranda rights, said that he did not have a gun.
The report says several witnesses told police that both men were armed and that the accused attackers tried to drag the victim to a car near Picadilly Avenue and put her in the open trunk. The victim was taken to University of Louisville with serious injuries, the report says.
Lewis is charged with second-degree assault, attempted kidnapping and first-degree wanton endangerment. He is due in court Aug. 8.
