SALINE CO., IL (WFIE) -

The driver of a minivan is killed in an accident on Illinois Route 34 in Saline County.

It happened just before 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Illinois State Police say the driver of a truck tractor was headed south on Route 34 when he saw animals on both sides of the road.

Troopers say the driver, James Certain, drove his truck into the northbound lane to avoid one of the animals.

A minivan that was in the northbound lane saw the truck and moved into the southbound lane.

The truck then returned to the southbound lane and both vehicles collided.

Troopers say the driver of the minivan, 61-year-old Cheryl Shaffer of Rosiclare, Illinois, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Saline County Coroner's office.

The 41-year-old Certain of Equality, Illinois, was not hurt.

He was cited for improper lane usage.
