CLOVERDALE, IN (AP) - State police say a man who was trying to helping the driver of a disabled SUV was fatally struck when he apparently stepped into a driving lane of Interstate 70 in western Indiana.
Police say 22-year-old John Dugger of Terre Haute died early Tuesday at an Indianapolis hospital after being hit Monday night on the highway about 25 miles east of Terre Haute.
Sgt. Joe Watts says Dugger had stopped to help a couple from Texas whose SUV had stopped running.
Watts says it appears Dugger stepped into the driving lane to talk to the driver of the disabled vehicle when he was hit by another SUV.
Watts says the collision sent Dugger airborne over two vehicles and he landed on a woman standing outside. She suffered a leg injury.
