Irish QB Golson confident heading into camp

CULVER, IN (AP) -

Everett Golson is feeling more confident as Notre Dame opens preseason training camp.

The senior is more comfortable than he was in the spring, when he failed to reclaim the starting position he held before being suspended for the fall semester.

Golson says he believes competition from sophomore Malik Zaire will better prepare him for the upcoming season. He says the competition will help both get better.

Golson took every snap with the first-team offense on Monday and his passing was more precise than Zaire, who struggled at times with accuracy. Kelly says he will name a starter whenever either shows consistency, great leadership and the ability to lead the Irish to a championship.
