Taking a Stand: National Night Out

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

On Tuesday, August 5, Evansville will hold its annual National Night Out celebration at Wesselman Park in conjunction with millions of people around the world.

The introduction of National Night Out, "America's Night Out Against Crime", began back in 1984.

The event is meant to increase crime and drug prevention awareness by generating support for.. and participation in.. local anti-crime programs.

It's also meant to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

National Night Out is family-friendly. It's free and open to everyone.

There will be food and games, including a child's firefighting challenge course.

There will also be demonstrations by the K-9 and SWAT teams, as well as a rope-rappelling demo.

So join with local law enforcement, your friends and neighbors on August 5 at Wesselman Park for National Night Out.

It starts at 6:00 p.m. and wraps up at 9:00 p.m.

Please find a National Night Out celebration in your own community.  If you can't attend, you can simply participate buy turning your porch light on next Tuesday night in order to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and they are fighting back!

That's my stand, what's yours?
