New hotel could open early next year

In Owensboro, there's word tonight the 15 million dollar Holiday Inn being built downtown could open early next year.

And that has other businesses looking forward to even more growth in the new year.

Nona's Downtown Market Owner Maria Kelly says she's met lots of travelers passing through her store over the last four months.

Kelly gets excited telling them about the community and recommending places to eat.

"There's been a lot of corporate businesses that have been having meetings. We've had a lot of luncheons downtown. We've actually had more people from out of state downtown then we have had in Owensboro. It's kind of cool," said Kelly.

Kelly is anticipating the opening of the Holiday Inn Owensboro Riverfront down the street and it may come soon. LinGate Hospitality says the hotel could open early next year.

Good weather this spring and early summer has caused construction to speed up. Crews have finished building the fifth floor and are about to top out the building. Kelly expects to see even more visitors when the new hotel opens.

"This time next year we're going to be explosive. We're already becoming a destination and now with having another hotel and more condos more people will be finding us," said Kelly.
