EPD and Shoe Carnival joining forces to help two causes

Evansville Police and Shoe Carnival are hoping you can help them help out others in need.

Officers will hold a cook out on Saturday to raise money to buy shoes for students in grades 6 - 8 at Glenwood Leadership Academy.

Students in kindergarten through 5th grade will also get new shoes for the new school year thanks to a donation from Sketchers.

Burgers, hot dogs, drinks and baked goods are on the menu.  The prices will be up to people who want to help out the kids.

Also at Saturday's event, officers are holding a bone marrow registry drive in memory of Detective Nathan Schroer.

Schroer lost his battle with leukemia last November after searching for a bone marrow donor match.

All it takes to register is a simple cheek swab.  You must be 18 - 55 years old and in good health.

Both the cookout and the bone marrow registry drive are taking place on Saturday at the Shoe Carnival on north Green River Road from 10:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
