Gibson Co. police and deputies take driving training course

GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) -

Deputies and officers from across Gibson County were tested on their driving skills on Thursday.

These tests included weaving in and out of cones, driving through cones, and taking turns without using the brakes.

Course instructor Alec Hensley says drivers need to focus on how they steer and if they hit a cone they need to learn why and how to avoid doing it again.

"We try to address what caused them to hit the cone," says Hensley. "Whether they were over driving the car or they were not paying attention in a way or they were not actually using the hands like they are supposed to on the steering wheel. So we try to correct that and we make sure that they have a clean run and that they understand what we are trying to teach them."

Another driving course will be held in Gibson County before the fall.
