EVSC holding public meeting to discuss Lincoln Elementary's future

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Representatives with the State Board of Education are holding a public meeting at Lincoln Elementary.

Officials want public input on how to help the school overcome its failing record.

Officials are holding these meetings because Lincoln Elementary has receiving a failing grade for the past five years.

Officials say the number of students passing the ISTEP tests are a large factor in determining the school grades.

In the 2012-2013 school year only 32 percent of third graders passed the math portion of the ISTEP while the state average is 80 percent.

Lincoln is a 'Transformation Zone school' and that means they are given special assistance to boost student achievement.

EVSC officials say they hope the state board allows them to stay to remain a transformation school and doesn't take over operations.

The meeting at Lincoln goes until 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

After that officials will head to McGary Middle School to discuss its future.

That meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the public is welcome.
