LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Forecastle fans coming from the north will want to plan some extra travel time to get to the festival, especially if they are traveling Friday afternoon.
Indiana Department of Transportation officials want to alert the public about a non-stop construction blitz scheduled from Friday, July 18 to Sunday, July 20 on Interstate 65 between Seymour and Scottsburg, Indiana, just north of Louisville. I-65 will be down to one lane in that area and severe backups that could exceed four miles in length are anticipated.
The affected areas will be near mile markers 48 and 38 in the southbound lanes and 44 and 29 in the northbound lanes.
Drivers coming south on I-65 Friday should expect the most extreme delays during the afternoon and evening hours. Officials encourage drivers to use U.S. 31, which runs mainly parallel to I-65, as an alternate route.
INDOT expects the traffic backup will be most severe in the northbound lanes on Sunday afternoon and evening.
The state is renovating 21 miles of pavement and rehabilitating 20 bridges in Scott and Jackson County. Officials said the purpose of the weekend construction blitz is to shorten the project’s overall construction time by six to eight weeks.
Further north, there will be lane closures in Columbus, Indiana along I-65 northbound between mile markers 67 and 70 related to another project. Lane restrictions begin there at 7 p.m. Friday and will be lifted at noon Monday.
