Authorities investigating 'suspicious' fire at Central City movie theater

Posted: Updated:

Crews were called to the scene of a fire at a movie theater in Muhlenberg County.

Firefighters got the call just before 3 a.m. Wednesday for a fire at Cinema 4 in Central City.

They tell us the fire was in an upstairs control room.

Authorities say there is light smoke and water damage to immediate area of the control room, but crews were able to contain it to that area.

Central City Fire Chief Ricky King says they are treating the fire as suspicious because of where it started.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined at the moment, but tells us the State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate.

"This could have been a big turn out if we hadn't of got there," said King. "They actually had a fire alarm go off here. That alarm actually activated. If we wouldn't have gotten the call when we did, 20 more minutes and the building would have probably been up in flames."

Owners of the restaurant connected to the movie theatre are glad both buildings didn't burn down.
