LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Two masked men forced their way into a Dairy Queen, fired a shot into the ceiling and demanded cash Wednesday morning, according to the owner of the fast food restaurant.
The armed robbery occurred around 6:15 a.m. at the Middletown Dairy Queen located in the 11000 block of Shelbyville Road.
Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman Dwight Mitchell said, "Two black males in bandannas and hoodies confronted them, pushed them inside the business and the suspects fired a shot into the ceiling."
The Dairy Queen’s owner Bill Bond said there weren’t any customers, but five employees were in the restaurant at the time.
Police said one witness was struck in the head with a handgun and sustained a minor injury. No other injuries were reported.
The suspects ran away shortly after the incident with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Managers working at Middletown businesses said they're reviewing safety policies with workers on how to react during a crisis situation.
"It's just a shame, but we're going to have a meeting with our employees about this and bring up what to do in a situation like that. Safety of our workers is our top priority and you hope and pray it never happens," Hometown Pizza manager Tom Malone said.
Metro Police detectives are reviewing surveillance video of the crime, according to Mitchell.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the anonymous police tip line at (502) 574-LMPD.
