Evansville fireman files federal lawsuit against city

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

14 News has learned Evansville Fireman George Madison has filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Evansville.

Evansville City Attorney Ted Ziemer says Madison filed the federal suit in May.

We're told the suit lists nine claims against two Evansville Police Officers including excessive force and unlawful arrest.

Madison is seeking monetary damages, emotional distress damages, punitive damages, and legal fees.

Madison is the firefighter who was at the center of a controversy, after he was pulled over on his bicycle by an Evansville police officer.

Madison claims he was mistreated and threatened with a taser, but Evansville Police say an internal investigation found the officer involved did not violate department policy.

His attorneys are hoping for a jury trial in the civil matter.

A date has not been set.
