New signs being discussed for Madisonville parks asking people not to smoke

Posted: Updated:
MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

Signs are being posted around parks Louisville by the Health Department and read, "Children at Play! Thank you for not smoking" - It's not a ban, just an effort to keep kids safe.

The health department did a study in 3 different parks and found that the signs actually decreased the number of people smoking at those locations.

Now, a Madisonville City Council member is opening up the discussion for Hopkins County.

"I think anything that is health related and relates to our children, is worth talking about," said Councilman Mark Lee. "That's the only thing I wanted to do at this point kind of get the conversation started."

Several parents and grandparents said they would be in support of the signs.

We opened the discussion on our Facebook page.

We want you to let us know if this is something you want in your city.
