Tell City drivers complain about faded street markings to INDOT

TELL CITY, IN (WFIE) -

The complaints the Indiana Department of Transportation have received recently from drivers in Tell City pertain to the intersection of Tell St. and 12th.

Recently, INDOT faded-out some of the street markings for turn lanes and drivers say this has caused a bit of dangerous confusion.

Some time ago, INDOT painted turn lanes in an effort to make traffic near the high school safer

Now INDOT says they have faded the lanes while they re-evaluate the intersection.

Residents here say it took some time for drivers to adjust to the turn lanes, but that adhering to them eventually became the norm.

But now, since the lanes are no longer in place, drivers say they have had many close calls with other vehicles.

"We've come up to it, and somebody's following the line that's been faded out," said Christina Neyenhaus. "We're trying to remember to follow what their new rules are. And there's people that almost side-swipe each other. Honestly, I think the turn lanes need to be put back in and the lines repainted."

INDOT says they don't have a set timeline for when the new configuration at this intersection will be put in place.
