New streetscape design released for Jacobsville

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The new streetscape in Jacobsville will connect Garvin Park to Division Street with wider sidewalks, as well as bike lanes.

Rough designs were released on Tuesday and it was approved to go through the official planning for N. Main St.

The owner of Daily's Bakery Darla Daily-Smith says she's been helping plan the streetscape for a while now.

She says the changes will help increase her visibility and help to increase her business.

However, Daily-Smith says she had the chance to do that earlier by moving to the east side, but chose to stay to watch the evolution of N. Main.

I was raised in this community, I remember when this was a walking community," said Daily-Smith. "I was just 11-years-old when I came to this neighborhood. I wanted to see that once again. I wanted to see this evolving, coming along step by step. There's a lot happening all at once now."

Kelley Coures with the Department of Metropolitan Development says there have been some concerns about parking on N. Main with this project.

However, Daily-Smith says she doesn't think it will hurt business in the area.
