The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has restricted eastbound traffic to one lane on the Audubon Parkway at the Green River Bridge.
Transportation officials say the restriction is due to a protruding bridge expansion joint that has created a potential traffic hazard.
KYTC says the joint has had a minor issue that was repaired in the past and a bridge inspector had been checking it from time to time. Tuesday morning an inspector found that a section of the joint was out of alignment and could possible puncture a tire on vehicles traveling in the eastbound driving lane.
KYTC says engineers found that a section of the joint may need to be replaced and will require a more extensive repair effort.
All eastbound traffic on the Audubon Parkway Green River Bridge has been moved to the left-hand lane. Officials say eastbound drivers should be prepared for slowing and merging traffic as they approach this lane restriction.
KYTC says the lane restriction is likely to be in place for an extended period while engineers work out a long-term repair plan.
