EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Six new Evansville Police Department recruits were sworn-in at a special ceremony Monday.

Michael DeBlanc Jr., Jacklyn Smith, Amanda Epmeier, Eric Hermann, Sara Gibson, and William George all received their Evansville Police badges Monday afternoon.

William George is the son of Princeton Police Chief W.W. George.

Sara Gibson spoke to 14 News about how it feels to be one of three new female officers.

"Knowing that I'm going to be in a field full of men isn't quite intimidating," said Sara. "It's very empowering knowing that you can hang along with the guys just as well as anybody else."

All six will enroll in the police academy for the next four months, and then train alongside motor patrols for eight months.
