The Posey County Sheriff's Office hopes to hire four new deputies to abide by a new Indiana state mandate.
The mandate calls for a uniform presence in the courthouse, something that Posey County has never had before.
Chief Deputy Sheriff, Tom Latham, says these new positions will be funded by money from the County Option Income Tax Fund so it will not affect tax payers.
Latham says the new deputies will add man power and a greater sense of security to the county.
Latham says, "it's better to be safe than sorry and taking these steps in order to make the atmosphere not only safer for the employees but for the community in which we serve I think that's the main goal at the end of the day."
Latham says the sheriff's office will be starting the application process very soon.
