Southern Indiana animal shelter rescues 68 dogs from one home

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - Nearly 70 dogs were removed from a modular home in western Kentucky by the New Albany Floyd County Animal Shelter.The shelter along with the New Albany Floyd County Animal Control loaded up more than 50 Chihuahuas and several Chinese Crested from a breeder in western Kentucky.

This is the first deployment of this type for the NAFC Animal Shelter, Pets Are Worth Saving PAWS.) Unit, which was able to purchase equipment with donations, for use as an offsite adoptions, emergency shelter and a spay-neuter unit.

The trailer is outfitted with hot cold running water, air-conditioning, heat, septic holding tank and scrubbable cages, floors and walls. It has cages to safely transport up to 75 animals and house 150 in an emergency situation as a temporary shelter.

The dogs will be checked by a vet and evaluated for temperament. Then they will be available for adoption at the NAFC Animal Shelter and other local area rescue groups that have already committed to accepting them.
