Man charged with Franklin St. arson appears in court

Posted: Updated:

A judge has turned down a request from the attorney of the Evansville man accused of setting a fire that killed three people.

Christopher Compton was in court Friday afternoon.

His lawyer had requested for all 14 arson charges to be combined into one charge.

Authorities say Compton started the fire on West Franklin Street earlier this year knowing several people, including two young children, were inside the building.

Two adults and a three-year-old died.
