Spencer Co. designated 'Storm Ready' by NWS

SPENCER CO., IN (WFIE) -

In a public ceremony Friday morning Spencer County was designated as 'Storm Ready' by the National Weather Service.

The designation is in recognition of Spencer County's work and dedication to making the area a safe place to be during a storm.

County EMA Director Stephanie Melton says they've added stronger weather communication lines for dispatchers, trained emergency personnel on storm-spotting, and given weather radios to the county's schools and businesses.

Melton says all of these improvements make Spencer County's warning systems much stronger.

Melton says, "it shows the residents and the people who come into our county that we care about their safety and that we're doing whatever it takes to make sure everyone has a fun time in Spencer County, as well as being safe."
