Council members to introduce resolution in support of land-based gaming

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Several members of Evansville's City Council want to go on record regarding the future location of the Tropicana casino.

On the agenda for Monday night's council meeting is a resolution supporting land-based gaming for Tropicana.

It's being introduced by council members John Friend, Dr. Dan Adams, Connie Robinson, Missy Mosby and Jonathan Weaver.

"There's a lot of competition in the casinos and I just feel that would help Tropicana and open up more revenue for them, which in turn brings more revenue to the city of Evansville," said Councilwoman Missy Mosby.

The resolution needs to be made before the next session of the state legislature if lawmakers are to consider making land-based gaming legal in Indiana.

Mayor Winnecke has suggested to the board of the LST 325 that the ship might be moved to the spot where Tropicana is if land-based gaming is made legal in the state.

One of the LST board members said that was a shifting point in the negotiations to keep the LST here in Evansville.

The LST was being pursued by Peoria, Illinois, but it was announced on July 1 the ship would stay in Evansville.

The City has a five year contract with an option for a five year extension.
