A new Wal-Mart Supercenter could be coming to Vanderburgh County.
According to a variance application to the Board of Zoning Appeals, Wal-Mart Real Estate Business Trust wants to build a Wal-Mart Supercenter on 31 acres at near Boonville/New Harmony Road and State Road 57.
The application says the 186,933 square feet construction would include around 758 parking spaces, a gas station and "4 outlots."
Zoning guidelines state that the store would be allowed 4 signs and the variance is requesting a total of 10 signs.
Those living nearby have mixed emotions about the project.
"We wish there was more infrastructure already here," said Joe Cooper. "The roads were already larger and maybe four lanes or so forth."
"I'm pretty much against it because of all the traffic, and if they unload big trucks back there banging around 'til midnight or 2 o'clock in the morning, I might be kept awake a lot," said Clyde Barton.
The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a public hearing to discuss Wal-Mart's application.
The meeting will be held on July 17 at 4 p.m. in Room 301 of the Civic Center.
