Greenville officials worried for pedestrians

Posted: Updated:

According to police, pricey pieces like the clock tower in downtown Greenville are taking a beating from drunk drivers, and they're worried the next thing could be a pedestrian.

Around 2:00 a.m. Sunday, police say 51-year-old Louis Chambers, of Owensboro, crashed into an expensive electronic crosswalk sign and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Greenville officials say they had two to three instances of drunk drivers crashing into expensive downtown infrastructure in the last several months.

City officials say they've spent around $1-million over the past four years in downtown.
