Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 49 sex offenders so far this year for failing to register.
Sheriff Dave Wedding said they arrested 60 offenders in 2013, so numbers are certainly up.
On average, Vanderburgh County has more than 350 registered sex offenders.
That number includes more than 150 offenders against children and nearly 100 sexually violent predators.
The sheriff's office checks on each offender at least once a year and if an offender registers a new address, they verify that as well.
But the biggest challenge is identifying sex offenders that are registered in other counties that have moved into Evansville, and are living without being on the new registry.
"We have people coming in and out of our community routinely," said Wedding. "We have people who may set up residences for a few days, weeks, months. We will have people here occasionally that might be a sexual offender from another county or state. As I've often stated, people need to be aware, just because they're not on our registry, doesn't mean there may not be a sexual offender in our community."
According to the registry there are two Vanderburgh County sex offenders that are non-compliant.
55-year-old Antonio Barker was convicted of sexual battery in Christian County, Kentucky.
And 39-year-old Stephen Keller was convicted of child exploitation and child pornography in Dubois County.
If you have seen either of these two men, call authorities.
