Money to renovate Ivy Tech Princeton Site

GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) -

The Gibson County Redevelopment Commission has voted to put $600,000 into renovating Ivy Tech Community College's Princeton site.

The money comes from Gibson County's TIF fund and will be spread over a five year period.

Ivy Tech will also contribute $2.1 million.

The money will be used to furnish a new welding lab and to revamp the programs at the Princeton site.

The Chancellor at Ivy Tech Community College, Jonathan Weinzapfel, says the project will benefit the local community.

"This is really the start of, what I would consider, a great relationship, a great partnership," says Weinzapfel. "We'll start with the programming and the welding. There are a lot of other things that employers and manufacturers are looking for from their employees in Gibson County and we want to meet the needs of the employers. We fully expect to add to our course offerings over the next several years."

Weinzapfel says welding classes should be offered at the Princeton site beginning in January.
