People started to show up early as the festivities kicked off for the annual Fourth of July celebration.
The real action will take place on the river as Evansville will get to see part of a fireworks show that will be featured internationally.
Garry Poe with Melrose Pyrotechnics says he's been producing the show for 16 years.
Melrose Pyrotechnics is competing in an international fireworks competition this year.
Poe says because the Evansville show is on the water, just like the international show, they decided to test the fireworks they're going to use.
Poe says if you come out normally you should expect to see something a little different this year.
"The colors are a little brighter and a little bolder," says Poe. We keep the angles down so we can keep it a little tighter to the ground. We get that break in the sky but you get that great reflection off the water. It's a great venue. One of the best places I've ever shot fireworks is right here."
The fireworks show will start around 9:00 on the evening of the 4th of July.
Poe says the show will last around 26 minutes and they will shoot off hundreds of fireworks.
