A new non-profit organization in Hopkins County is helping local citizens embrace veterans all in the name of Patrick Rudd.
"This is just a small way that we can give back to a man who ultimately gave his life for his country," says Whitney Wardrip.
Sergeant William Patrick Rudd, a team leader for the 3rd Battalion 75th Ranger regiment, was killed in 2008 in Iraq.
"Patrick was a true hero to our community," explains Wardrip.
And just like all heroes, Patrick is now making a difference years after his passing through the Patrick Rudd Project.
"This is to bridge a gap between military members and civilian societies so we can learn more about ways that we can help veterans in our community."
Another goal of the Patrick Rudd Project is to provide financial assistance to Hopkins County first responders through mini grants for new equipment and training. Patrick's family and friends couldn't be more thrilled that his name is still alive in the hearts of so many.
"His father couldn't be more happy that we are honoring him in such a way that he affects so many, his family is really excited," says Wardrip.
