ComEd largely restores power following storm

Posted: Updated:

All but 67,000 Commonwealth Edison customers' power has been restored following Monday night's high-powered thunderstorms, which were accompanied by strong winds.

A ComEd spokeswoman had initially said 117,000 customers were without power late Tuesday, most of them located in Chicago's south suburbs. At one point, 427,000 ComEd customers were without power following the storm. Officials say they expect power will be completely restored by the end of the day Thursday.

The National Weather Service reports five tornadoes touched down in Illinois during Monday night's storms.

A weather service damage survey confirmed modest tornadoes landed near Earlville, about 80 miles southwest of Chicago, Plainfield in Will County, in rural Kendall County, near Grant Park in Kankakee County and near Morris in Grundy County. The storm damaged buildings and downed trees.
