Target adopts no-guns policy following protests from gun control groups

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Target has adopted a no-guns policy and is asking customers to not bring guns to the store, even in communities that permit open carry.

The announcement was released Wednesday, following protests from gun control group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

"Bringing firearms to Target creates an environment that is at odds with the family-friendly shopping and work experience we strive to create," said interim CEO John Mulligan.

"Such positive safety changes made by some of our country's leading retailers are proof of the influence of women and mothers," said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
