LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The University of Louisville officially joined the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday, July 1.

The Cards had been waiting patiently since being extended an invitation in November 2012.

"The most incredible thing to see is just how excited everybody is," said UofL Vice President of Athletics Tom Jurich. "To say that they're ecstatic, that's a gross understatement. These people, they can't wait for it. It's a tremendous fit for us, we're so blessed to be invited into this league."

Jurich joined ACC commissioner John Swofford and UofL president Dr. James Ramsey at an 11 a.m. news conference to discuss the move.

UofL will also have a fan party at 4th Street Live! Tuesday afternoon. The party will include a game watch event for the United States World Cup match against Belgium at 4 p.m.

Jurich orchestrated the Cards' move from Conference USA to the Big East in 2005, but this one was even beyond his dreams.

"I think the ACC is perceived as a very, very prestigious conference that has a rich heritage, a rich tradition, and I think people all look up to it," Jurich said. "When I was on the outside looking in, that was always our dream, to be in the ACC. Did we ever think it would come to fruition? Probably not, but when it did, boy, we were so excited about it, but I think everybody around the country looks at the ACC with envy."
