Charging for annual fireworks show

The annual 4th of July fireworks show at Scales Lake Park has been free for years.  The Warrick County Council funded the $6,000 show until a few years ago.  Now, the Parks Department is going to charge for people to come in and watch.

The fifteen minute long show will cost $5/car coming into the park.

Superintendent for the Parks Department Ben Labhart says this is the first time they've ever had to charge for the show.

He says he doesn't expect much of a drop in attendance.

Labhart says since losing County Council funding, it's been getting more and more difficult to continue to fund the shows.

"After they stopped funding it, we would have to pull money from different accounts to come up with the money," said Labhart.  "It's just getting harder and harder to do that."

Labhart says if you come to the park before 5:00 p.m. you'll only have to pay the normal $2/car fee to get into the park.

The fireworks show starts at 9:00 p.m.
