Vanderburgh Sheriff and Stateline Fireworks offer safety tips for July 4th celebrations

Posted: Updated:
With thousands of people across the Tri-State already starting to shoot off fireworks in celebration of Independence Day, there are many people concerned with making sure people stay on the right side of the law and out of the hospital.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding asks people to read up on their local laws to make sure you know when and where it is legal to discharge fireworks.

Wedding also asks people to use common sense when setting off fireworks.

He says people should be careful to buy from licensed buyers, but also make sure to read and understand how they work before leaving the store.

At Stateline Fireworks, a list of safety tips is given to every customer who purchases fireworks.

Those tips include keeping an ample water supply to put out stray sparks and not smoking around fireworks.

Manager Jackie Heath says most importantly, they urge customers to keep fireworks out of the hands of kids, even with adult supervision.
